GPS-RF FRONT-END IC
Description
The GPS-RF is a complete global positioning system receiver from antenna to IF digitized output. The complete signal path from LNA input to quantizer output including LNA, Mixer, IF amplifier, image reject filter and channel selective filter is implemented on-chip in 0.18mm CMOS technology, eliminating almost all external components. The synthesizer blocks including VCO, PFD, charge pump, and divider are all on-chip except for Loop Filter passive components.
The chip provides down-conversion from the 1575.42 MHz GPS (L1) signal to 4.092 MHz output signal. The GPS-RF is available in a space-saving 48-pin TQFP package and is specified for the extended ( -40oC to +85oC ) temperature range. The pin count can be reduced to 24-pin upon request.

Description
The GPS-BB uses a unique adaptive measurement processing architecture that dynamically allocates its hardware processing elements to achieve equivalent or better performance than a typical 12-channel GPS receiver.
The GPS-BB despreads & demodulates the 50 bps data stream embedded in the GPS signal and provides the estimated signal propagation and delays. Full position-velocity-time solution is then calculated.
The main feature of the designed GPS receiver is its 90% power saving mode in which the power is saved by means of turning the system On & Off periodically. After the navigation data is updated, the system can turn off the RF and baseband for 90% duty cycle. This power saving feature is valuable in human scale applications.
Features
- Single frequency standard positioning service (L1 band)
- 12 parallel channels
- User’s position, velocity, and time computation
- Power-saving features for ultra low power operation
- At least one updates per second for Normal mode (Full power)
- Update every 3 seconds for power saving mode
- On/Off power mechanism, freeing the processor resources
- Customizable design for specified applications
- IP is protected by U.S. Patents
- FPGA-proven IP core
Applications
- GPS Receiver
- In-Vehicle Navigation Systems (IVNS)
- Location-Based Services (PDAs and Accessories)Geographical Information Systems (GISs)
- Telematics (Vehicle, Asset Tracking, and Inventory Management)
Intellectual Property Package
